Press Release January 23, 2008

We would like to congratulate Rabbi Susan Laikin Silberberg (Bloomington, IN) who was awarded the Torchbearer award for her work in the religious community at the Indiana Commission for Women’s Torchbearer Awards on Tuesday, January 22nd. There were many nominees, 57 finalists and then they narrowed it down to 26 Torchbearers in different categories. The Awards were created to honor Indiana women “who have overcome or removed barriers to equality or to whose achievements have contributed to making the state a better place to live, work and raise a family.”   This is truly an honor for Rabbi Sue and all of the hard work that she has put in over the years to create one of the strongest and most well respected Hillel foundations in North America-the Helene G. Simon Hillel Center at Indiana University and in creating the grassroots anti-hate organization Bloomington United.
